We are proud to announce the Pheonix Picturehouse Oxford as our official venue!
OxIFF are proud and excited to announce that the inaugural festival of 2016 will be in partnership with the Phoenix Picturehouse. This historic venue will be host to Oxford’s very first international film festival and will exclusively screen all the amazing independent films of our first edition’s official selection from May 27th - 29th 2016. The cinema first opened as the North Oxford Kinema on 15 March 1913, designed by local architect Gilbert T. Gardner. Celebrating over 100 years of exhibiting the very best films from around the world this prestigious building has seen many changes, in 1977, the cinema was renamed The Phoenix by owners Charles and Kitty Cooper, who began to show art house and foreign language films to an appreciative audience. In 1989, the cinema became the very first venue of the Picturehouse group. Moving with the times with a new ownership in 2012, the Phoenix has now evolved into a contemporary venue with the feel and ambience of independence and integrity…a perfect fit for an international film festival with ambition, honesty and a quest to discover new and exciting films for the people of Oxford and beyond.
